When New Jersey put the Solar Rebate program together they were pretty smart about it. They recognized that too much energy gets wasted in today's homes, so in order to get the maximum solar rebate amount, you are required to have a Home Energy Audit performed.

Most Solar companies perform the Home Energy Audit for one reason: to get the maximum solar rebate. The fact is that there is a lot of great information revealed by doing the energy audit! Information you can act upon to lower your energy consumption and your utility bills.

To sweeten the pie even more, the state of New Jersey will kick in up to $4,000 in rebates for other energy-improvement repairs that the audit reveals!

So How Does the Program Work?

The NJ Board of Public Utilities (BPU) along with the Federal Government, has allocated up to a $4,000 rebate, plus a $800 tax credit. In addition to the rebates of up to $4,000, the remainder of the costs for energy upgrades to the home can be financed through a 0% interest loan directly through the local utility company.

It all starts with the Audit: For $125, we'll conduct the Home Energy Audit where we will

Gather your most recent 12 Months of Utility Bills
Ask you questions about how your energy is used and where
Identify potential health or safety issues (moisture, mold, air quality, appliance venting)
Measure your home to calculate exactly how much heating or cooling power you need
Inspect your existing heating and cooling systems
Inspect your air distribution system (ductwork)
Inspect you insulation
Inspect your appliances and lighting
Analyze your home's air infiltration levels

Once we have a good understanding of your home, we'll return to the office to analyze the data and put together the recommendations that will help you save the most energy. These improvements usually include things like; fixing insulation gaps, sealing air leaks, upgrading heating and cooling systems, upgrading water heating, upgrading to high-efficiency lighting, and more.

We'll also show you exactly how much the state of New Jersey will rebate back to you for these improvements (up to $4,000), plus help you apply for 0% financing for the remaining work.

Once the audit is scheduled you'll need to prepare the following:

Gather your electric and gas (propane, oil) bills for the last 12 months.

Clear access to crawlspaces, basement and attic.

We'll need to enter every room in the house.

Depending on the size of the home and how many appliances, plan for us to be working for at least 3 hours.

Plan for children and pets to be out of the house.
